Humanity's transition in to the postmodern age has been marked by attempts at promoting peace and harmony. One of these ways is through religious tolerance; that is, the promotion of understanding of other cultures and religions. This is generally a good idea. This allows us all to leave our well-worn perspectives and to understand various viewpoints. Unfortunately, this effort at unity has also warped into a more sinister form, a pluralism that encourages a blurring of distinctions, especially in the area of religion.

This mode of thought has done the most damage when applied to religion. The underlying idea behind the pluralistic effort is that all religions and schools of thought are "basically the same," that they are all different paths that lead to God, and, therefore, there doesn't seem to be any harm in lumping them all together by highlighting their similarities, or conjuring similarities out of thin air when they don't really exist.

This misguided effort at unification has led to an attempt to mix two completely opposite religions: Christianity and Islam. This mode of thought is prevalent among many, even those--Christians and Muslims--who so well-schooled in one or both religions that they should know better. To believe that Christianity and Islam are simply different paths to the same God, one has to put aside the "petty" differences between the two religions, such as Christianity's emphasis on grace and Islam's emphasis on good deeds. This specious argument advocating harmony between the two religions is, however, not based solely on trivializing otherwise important distinctions between the two religions. It is predicated on an even more damaging lie: Christianity and Islam both acknowledge the same God.

When the precepts of Christianity and Islam are compared, this seemingly justified argument is shown to have no theological basis. Despite this, in the spirit of unity and friendship, many have accepted this falsehood as truth. Many of the general public in the United States see no significant differences that would distinguish Jehovah from Allah. What is the most alarming is that this lie is rapidly spreading. This case of mistaken identity is rapidly gathering steam, especially among those who do not take the time to discover for themselves the truth.

The purpose of this article is to expose the sophistry behind this dangerous and pervasive idea that marries light and darkness. It is to conclusively prove that the natures of Jehovah and Allah are opposites; that Jehovah is good and Allah is evil; that Jehovah is truth and Allah is falsehood. The dangerous misconception that Islam and Christianity are more and less the same inevitably leads to the conclusion that their Gods are the same. This article is written to debunk this misconception and expose it for what it truly is: a lie.
